Welcome to Lost Tulsa
Lost Tulsa is a hobby/project that I've been working on for a few years. I first lived in Tulsa from May 1980 - Nov 1987. Upon moving back in May 2002, I started trying to photodocument the many structures and landmarks that I remember from my High School and College years. This urge to preserve a memory of a place, mixed with my love for the pop culture and design of past generations has turned this simple project into a non-cohesive, rambling collection of photos. The collection covers abandoned, restored and otherwise modified places and structures in Tulsa. Some are significant for their style or representation of an era. Some are significant merely in my mind, due to what they represented to me in the past.
I'm aware that I'm not the only one doing this type of thing. I certainly do not mean to step on any toes, as I'm doing this simply as a hobby. I felt the urge to share these photos since, until recently, there was very little content on this subject available online. I will be slowly compiling and posting various locations with galleries and as much information as I can find on them. They'll be posted in no particular order and no particular frequency.
I hope you find my odd obsession marginally interesting. If so, drop a comment on any of the posts.

I really enjoy your site (located it via batesline) and you have some really nice photos. I'll need to get to Tulsa to capture some of these gems for myself.
You might want to check out the Daylight Donuts on Yale (I think around 31st) It has a great sign that will be gone soon.
Glad to see the Sheridan Lanes sign is working.

I ask about the donut location but the one you have is south of 31st on the east side of Yale.
The one I am talking about is an unusual bldg 3 bldgs from 31st North on yale on the west side. It was a donut shop for 1 year and sat empty for 15 before I purchased. Its now Dayton trailers. Jim Pumpelly

Thank you so much for doing this. As a Tulsan taken away from home due to being married to a Navy Man these photos bring back so many memories and makes me feel at home, I hope you do not mind my blatant stealing of photos, I am so glad you are doing this.
A few other suggestions would be the Atlas Life Building, and The Admrial Twin.

Fantastic website. I found it while searching for info on the Casa Bonita closing. I grew up in Pryor, and went to the Casa Bonita a lot as a kid, and when the "old gang" would get back together, we would make a trip there for dinner. Hopefully Bell's amusement part and the Admiral Twin drive-in won't make it onto your list. Would the Old Tyme Cinema be considered a lost Tulsa classic?
Thank you for doing this!
I wonder, what is the power of local preservationists to stop further demolition and to try to obtain funding to rehabilitate these important landmarks?
What is the updated scoop on Casa Bonita? Am I never to go there again? Will it REALLY be the same when it has a new name? What is its status?

What about the "Rocky Horror Picture Show"? Is that still show at midnight?! Oh & the library where you & Greg worked was, then, called TJC not TCC. Of course, those are more 'Baddley Tulsa memories'. HA!
Great site!

Uh oh! There's a woman with a lot of stories from my younger days. It's great to hear from you, Sonya! I hope you're doing well.
Funny you should mention the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I'm actually working on a set of pics that includes most of the twin cinemas that we used to visit each weekend.

I ran across your site while searching for the owners of Eastland Mall since I am curious about what is going to become of it. I spent hours reading your site and your links. Thanks for sharing your hobby with the public.
As a born and raised T-Town boy in the Army, far from home in Afghanistan your pics pull at my heartstrings, for memories of yester-year. Thank you.
